As Integra's longest standing client, AEP River Operations (formerly MEMCO) has been leveraging Integra's skills to their benefit for years.
Situation
MEMCO had aggressive plans to expand their business and their market share. They were committed to purchase enough barges to double their fleet from 600 to 1200, and enough towboats to handle the increase in barges accordingly.

Problem
MEMCO did not have the necessary operational systems in place to facilitate this growth. Their operational systems were in silos, and did not seamlessly communicate information between their various departments. They did not have the source code to one of their primary operational systems, so they could not adapt to business changes without spending a great deal of time on error-prone manual processes. The majority of the billing process had to be done manually. Hiring more people for the impending growth was not the right answer.
Solution
The Integra Group completed a system for MEMCO that touched all aspects of their business and kept them in sync with a centralized database. The completed system incorporates Sales, Transportation, Billing, Accounts Payable, and Equipment Management with full integration to the accounting system.

After seeing the improvements brought about by the new system, MEMCO teamed with The Integra Group to build major additions including Fleet Management, Accounts Payable, a Web Portal for customers and vendors, and a Towboat application with satellite communications used on all MEMCO operated tow boats.
Results
MEMCO Barge Lines, through its partnership with The Integra Group, was able to accomplish the following for their business.
  • An increase of more than 400% in revenue while decreasing their administrative cost per transaction
  • A fleet size increase of more than 400%
  • Improved customer service while reducing the number of phone calls received by dispatchers each day by more than 50%
  • Consistent increase in margins in a market environment of continual rate and price reduction
  • Increased billing accuracy by more than 100%
  • Saving thousands of dollars per year by eliminating invalid expense payments by utilizing the accurate Accounts Payable Event History
